There are many different types of shots that are used during a match. The wood shot is one of lesser known and least common shots.
The name comes from the material that racquets used to be made of, wood! When the shuttlecock hits a part of the racquet outside the head this area is called the wood. This doesn’t happen that often but it still comes up every so often. It can make the trajectory of the birdie a little unpredictable. Usually it’s not an intentional shot but if you’re very skilled it’s quite deceptive which can really throw your adversary off guard.
The wood shot used to be an illegal shot but in the 70’s they changed the rules to allow wood shots to be legal and not a fault. So don’t be confused on this point during a match.
So that’s everything you need to know about the wood shot. Good luck!
