Our watersports brand offers expert advice for your time on the water.
Read on for tips on choosing the right equipment for stand up paddling or kayaking, no matter the season:
If you’re planning to paddle board or kayak in the summer sun – and who can blame you? – you’ll need less gear than if you were going out on the water in cooler months. Your essentials are a buoyancy vest, anti-UV top and boardshorts. You really don’t need anything else but you can also get a sleeveless neoprene wetsuit and slippers to protect yourself in the water, if you want.
In mid-season , it’s pretty much impossible to stand up paddle or kayak in boardshorts – the water is choppier, the wind and rain go up a notch and you’ll need some basic equipment in case you fall in the cold water.
So, in addition to a buoyancy aid, you’ll need an outfit crafted from materials that remain warm even when wet, such as a neoprene wetsuit and a thermal top.
Not many watersports enthusiasts want to brave the waters in wine, but if you do, you should make sure you have a windproof and watertight hood, which will protect you from both rain and wind without obstructing your vision. Lastly, get some neoprene slippers that are resistant to abrasion and provide thermal comfort.
