If you’ve had a couple of winter running seasons under your belt then you’ll probably know by now what works for you. But if you’re new to the game or still unsure then keep on reading.

There is no ‘one size fits all’ answer when it comes to the ideal winter running outfit. Factors such as the intensity and length of your run will play a big part, as will your body size. You also have to remember that once you get moving your body will begin to heat up. So with that in mind, the best method is to layer up with technical clothing and wear items that can easily be removed and carried during your run.

Here are a few wardrobe essentials

Running gloves – Your hands are often the first to feel the chill and gloves can easily be taken off if you start to warm up.

Multipurpose headband – These are fantastic as you can switch up the uses, headband, hat, snood etc.

Hat – Go for a thin, tight fitting option. Just like the gloves and headband, they’re easy to stow away.

Baselayer – A breathable, perspiration wicking base layer is ideal when it comes to regulating your body temperature. Long sleeve or short sleeve, the choice is yours.

Tights – To keep those leg muscles at the right temperature go for a breathable, perspiration wicking pair that won’t leave you feeling hot and sweaty. If you especially feel the cold then look out for a pair with a brushed lining.

Windproof Jacket - Protect yourself from those bracing winds with a light weight jacket. They can easily be taken off and tied around your waist, with some models folding away so that they fit nicely in your hand.
