  1. Don’t overthink it

Starting out on your fitness journey doesn’t mean you have to sign up for a gym membership or spend thousands of pounds on a home gym set up. One you have decided that you want to be more active, start small but stay consistent. Try going out for a ten minute walk each day with the aim of building it up to 30 minutes by the end of the month. You could even start now by just doing ten squats in your living room!

  1. Get new kit

You know the feeling you get when you buy new shoes, like literally skipping down the road feeling a million pounds? Well the same goes for new gym clothes or trainers. Treat yourself to some new kit that you feel good in and see your motivation levels hit the roof!

  1. Ask for support

Ask friends and family to join in with you, working out is a lot easier if you make it more social. Look for local fitness classes that interests you or join a local running group. You can also gets lots of support through social media, for example Facebook groups or Instagram profiles.

  1. Get professional advice

Personal trainers are experts in fitness. If you really do not know where to start or you haven’t exercised in a long time, find a personal trainer in your local area. Do your research and ask about what qualifications they have. Even if you just have one or two sessions to learn the basics it is well worth the investment, but can also help with keeping you motivated in the long term.

  1. Find something you enjoy

You are much more likely to stick to something if you are enjoying it. Keep trying new forms of activity until you find one that you really enjoy and fits in with your lifestyle.
